The goal of the game is to develop the best poker hand possible. The cards are then shown to the other players in a showdown. The hand with the highest ranking poker combination wins the pot. The winnings are distributed to the winners according to the odds of the hand. In addition to the standard five cards, there are additional cards which can be used to develop a hand. Various pairs of cards can be used to develop a flush, a straight, or a five of a kind.
